There has been a constant stream of new openings lately, and where there’s a new venue, a brunch is sure to follow. But far from being a three-hour buffet with some drinks stations, these places are putting their own spin on things. Evening shindigs, sophisticated sharing concepts and a la carte parties are all in our ShortList of Dubai’s best new brunches.

Spirito – Launches September 11
What: Join Spirito for a carnival atmosphere and plenty of Brazilian street food served in a sharing style. A la carte mains include the Lobo black angus steak with a special coco and chilli rub (our must try), and Cajun shrimp in a coconut stew. As well as the all-important resident DJ, there will be live entertainment including carnival dancers. It all sounds good, but our favourite part is that there are two sittings... we suppose if you're feeling paticularly brave you could do both the day and night brunch.
Price: AED450 including house beverages and sparkling.
When: Fridays, 1pm to 5pm and 8pm to 12pm.
Where: Level 9, Media One Hotel, +971 04 421 2679, www.spirito.ae

Vivaldi Alfredo Rosso – Launches September 11
What: Instead of the traditional ‘all you can eat’ brunch, Vivaldi have come up with a playful concept. Diners have the choice of 16 a la carte dishes, but you don’t simply choose from the menu. On arrival you get 16 cards, and place them in the cardholder on the table in whichever order you like. Italian speciality desserts to start, or a pasta dish to finish? The choice is yours. The menu changes weekly and the views of Dubai’s skyline make for a beautiful backdrop.
Price: AED179 with water, AED239 with select beverages.
When: Fridays, 7pm to 11pm
Where: Sheraton Dubai Creek, +971 4 207 1717, www.vivaldidubai.com

Crab Tavern
What: Crab Tavern’s new brunch is a throwback to the '80s and '90s, with big tunes and old games – fancy cracking a Rubik’s cube in between courses? Starters and desserts are sharing style while the choice of hearty main courses is a la carte. The best bit? House beverages include cocktails, belinis and sparking.
Price: AED250 with soft drinks, AED395 with house beverages.
When: Fridays, 1pm to 5pm
Where: Media One Hotel, +971 4 420 74 89, www.crabtavern.ae

La Parrilla
What: Set on the 25th floor of Jumeirah Beach Hotel, La Parrilla has a front row  views of the Burj Al Arab and Arabian Gulf - #InstagramOpportunity. The Latin American menu rotates weekly, so you can go back multiple times without getting bored. Upon arrival, you can enjoy freshly made canapes and drinks from the bar, before sitting down to a table service brunch full of South American favourites like grilled meats and seafood.
Price: AED325 for soft drinks, AED425 for house beverages and sparkling.
When: Fridays, 12.30pm to 4pm
Where: Jumeirah Beach Hotel, +971 4 366 5866, JRGreservations@jumeirah.com

Serafina Dubai
What: This place is so popular that they’ve decided to launch their brunch and run it on both Fridays and Saturdays. It’s easy to see why people love it – you can’t go wrong with rustic food from northern Italy and a terrace overlooking the Burj Khalifa Fountains. To kick things of, diners are welcomed with a platter of antipasti, followed by pasta and risotto. Mains include the likes of thinly sliced striploin and sea bass.
Price: AED225 with soft drinks, AED295 with house beverages.
When: Fridays and Saturdays, 11am to 4pm
Where: Ground Level of Souk Al Bahar, +971 4 363 8447

La Residence
What: The Parisian-style brunch at La Residence is the ideal evening option for those who prefer a late start. Enjoy unlimited drinks with a chic party atmosphere and plenty of delicious French bites from Michelin Star chef Frederic Vardon’s menu. It’s brunch… for those who don’t actually like the typical Dubai brunch.
Price: AED300 for soft drinks, AED450 for house beverages.
When: Fridays, 8pm to 12pm
Where: Raffles Hotel, +9714 396 2211, www.laresidence-dubai.com

The Black Lion
What: This brunch is a celebration of all things stars and stripes. Food such as hot and sour chicken wings, shrimp cocktail and apple pie is served up on sharing platters, throughout the day. To get the party going the DJ will spin tracks from some of America’s classic movies, including Rocky, Pulp Fiction and Footloose. Apparently if it’s your birthday the staff will even recreate the “You’ve lost that loving feeling” scene from Top Gun.
Price: AED250 for food, AED395 for house beverages and AED450 for sparkling.
When: Fridays 12pm to 4pm and 6pm to 10pm
Where: H Hotel, +971 4 359 2366, www.theblacklion.ae

Tortuga
What: Central America is as renowned for fiestas as it is for food, so it seems natural for Mexican kitchen Tortuga to roll out a Friday brunch. Expect authentic dishes served at live cooking stations, while the likes of enchiladas and tacos can be made fresh to order. The fantastic spread is served up with a choice of over 80 Mexican-style drinks. Best of all, with a terrace on Mina A’Salam’s waterfront, it’s a winning location.
Price: AED265 with soft drinks, AED375 with house beverages.
When: Fridays, 12.30pm to 4pm
Where: Mina A’Salam, +9714 366 5866, JRGreservations@jumeirah.com
