REVIEW: Zephyr Rooftop Lounge at Warwick Hotel
Here at ShortList we are always on the lookout for off the beaten track hidden gems in the city. We have our mainstay favourite places of course, but always welcome an unexpected discovery. The Warwick hotel Dubai might just be our latest. The hotel’s location isn’t exactly hidden. Positioned on Sheikh Zayed Road it’s a stone’s throw from, and slightly over shadowed by, bigger hotels like The Dusit Thani and Shangri La but having only opened two years ago it is set to hold its own in the area for different reasons than bigger establishments. Guests staying at the hotel, which has properties in Beirut, Iraq and Jordan, will be pleased it’s a 2-minute walk from Financial Centre metro and only 2km’s from Dubai Mall.
We were visiting for a casual dinner at Zephyr Rooftop Lounge. The lift up to the 47th floor was packed full of chatty, relaxed people and walking out to the pool terrace the clear view of the Burj Khalifa hits you immediately. Great view box ticked.
Zephyr Rooftop Lounge is one of six restaurants in this hotel and has just launched weekend pool parties which are set to take off later on in the summer. The food served is mainly Asian light bites. Skimming through the menu there’s crispy chicken katsu, with beef, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato with tonkatsu mayonnaise, Sashimi Salad and wok fried Kong Pao Chicken and most dishes are priced between AED45-55 with bigger mains like orange and miso caramelized salmon with shisho cress and pickled ginger (AED110) and Lamb Chop crispy noodle and vegetable with garlic miso sauce (AED155).
On the recommendation of the friendly hotel manager Colin, we went for the sushi platter – 18 pieces of maki and nigari sushi (AED125) and the Yakitori platter; Chicken, beef, prawn shichimi and yuzu pepper with teriyaki sauce (AED55) to share as mains between two.
The service was great and relaxed, allowing us to enjoy a sundowner while we waited for our food. The platter offered a great variety of delicious bites and we almost cleared the plates in record time – there was too much to fit in! If you are looking for somewhere low key and a bit off the main radar this is in a great location and a lovely spot to get away from the busy city and relax with a great view and delicious food.
