A high-profile cabinet meeting was organized at Qasr Al Watan Abu Dhabi on Monday chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. The Prime Minister said that the cabinet meeting will always be the place for deciding and developing new policies and strategies that would help achieve the vision of the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum also mentioned that under the first cabinet meeting of 2023, a series of important decisions were made that included the outcomes of the policies of 2022 too.

Around nine hundred new administrative resolutions, sixty-eight federal laws, twenty-two government policies, seventy-one international agreements, and 113 national regulations were approved in the first cabinet meeting of 2023.
The meeting was presided over by important dignitaries like Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance; Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Court; and Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
The Cabinet meeting had decided on five top priorities that needed to be completed in the coming phase of development. Sheikh Mohammed had put up a post on Twitter that laid out these five points.
- Establishing and consolidation of the National Identity.
- Creating a new model for the educational system by developing proper indicators, vision, and outputs.
- Continuing the efforts to expand the International economic collaborations of UAE.
- Increase the appointment of Emiratis in both the public and private sectors.
- Focus on strategies for the environment and sustainability.
The Prime Minister, who chaired the meeting also reviewed the outcomes of 2022 and observed that UAE was among the first five countries who were ahead in the 339 development indicators that measured social and economic development.
Sheikh Mohamed also took time to thank the different teams that were involved in the developmental policies of last year as their efforts have paid off to make UAE one of the most adaptable and responsive governments among the world nations. Last year, UAE had been one of the center points of different kinds of global events like the Dubai Expo 2020, Gitex tech exhibition, Tourism based activities, etc.
These provided a good boost to the non-oil economy of the nation too which showed a steady increase in the developmental index.
He also shared his ambition for the new year and said that the whole administration should compete with themselves and work efficiently to make UAE the best country in the world concerning all economic and social parameters. The year 2023 will be a year that brings a lot of positivity that will enable the teams to work together for a better future.
In the meeting, the ministers approved a scheme called the National Strategy for Desertification, that will help in effectively maintaining and protecting the nation’s natural resources for the coming years.
This will include multiple plans for the preservation of the ecosystems concerning arid and dry lands by cutting out the drastic effects of climate change. Desertification refers to the destruction caused by humans on dry lands where there is very little rainfall.
New initiatives were passed for the development of space programs and also regulations were created for the proper utilization of space research resources in accordance with the recommendations of the National Space Policy. The new strategies also aimed at encouraging more foreign investments by providing options regarding compensations for damages that happen to third parties during space activities.
The cabinet also decided to launch a new digital platform for measuring customer satisfaction while using government services. The new Government Services Observatory would be a customer feedback system that would display different levels of customer approval and also analyze the public opinions of public websites, online portals, service centers, and smartphone applications.
New approvals were given to the issuance of a federal decree that enables official cooperation agreements with nations like Serbia, Italy, Ivory Coast, and Samoa. In the education sector, the cabinet has given instructions to the Ministry of Education to take needed measures for creating a proper financial channel that would fund the existing federal educational institutions.
This would be done by the combined efforts of all the concerned authorities. The Emirates Council for Food Security has also been approved for a re-formation and a unified finance transaction guide will be created to look over the donations and economic transfers done outside the Emirate Nation.
