Wheels of the week: Mitsubishi Lancer EX
I didn’t realise Mitsubishi made things other than Pajeros. Despite what you might see dominating Dubai’s roads, we’ve actually got many other models. What you’re looking at here is the new Lancer EX. Ain’t it pretty?
It’s got a neat spoiler on the back, does that mean it’s designed for boy racers? No, while it’s a sports car it’s not restricted to being driven by just youngsters.
Really? Do old people drive cars with spoilers? Probably not but we like to think the Lancer EX is cool enough for anyone to drive. It’s fast, safe and stylish, with audio control so you never need to take your eyes off the road.
Dubai is full of supercars, are we likely to turn heads driving a Mitsubishi? Well, that depends on how well you drive it. Supercar drivers in the UAE tend to crawl along really slowly to give people time to throw admiring looks. We like our cars to be driven how they’re designed to be driven, however.
You mean fast? Well, responsibly is a better way of putting it, but the Lancer EX does have paddle shift gears so you could give the supercars a run for their money in a drag race. Could, but don’t.
How big is it? We’ve got a big Dragon Mart trip coming up... The trunk is 315 litres in capacity, and also has the optional truck floor box for more storage.
Okay, so will that fit in a huge roll of fake grass? Fold the back seats down and you might just get away with it.
How much will the Lancer EX set us back? AED41,900, which we think is pretty reasonable. Agree?
