Wheels of the week: Bugatti La Voiture Noire
La Voiture Noire? Sounds fancy, what does it mean? Well, it actually just means “The Black Car” in French. But it does sound as sleek and stylish as it looks.
It really does. It must be made of expensive stuff to make it look so good, right? Pretty much. Apprently every single component of the car has been specially handcrafted, and the carbon fibre body has a deep black gloss.
Wait, so how expensive are we talking here? If you have $12.3 million (AED45.1 million) plus another $6.4 million (AED23.5 million) for taxes and fees, then the Bugatti could have been all yours.
...Could have been? It was already sold for $18.7 million (AED68.6 million) before it was even unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Geez, that was quick. Why was it nabbed so fast? This is a modern version of The Bugatti Type 57, designed by founder Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean, and there were only four of them ever made. This edition is a one-off to celebrate the French brand’s 110th anniversary.
Alright we get how special it is, but is it more bark than bite? This is an expesive piece of equipment, so what do you think? It boasts an 8-litre engine that produces 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque from its 16 cylinders.
That sounds fast...right? You can bet your bottom dirham it is. It has a top speed of 420 kilometres per hour, and could go from 0 to 100kph in 2.4 seconds.
Maybe if we get friendly with the buyer, we’ll get to experience that speed.
