If you’re in the mood to slow down, reflect and embrace the city’s more cultural side over the course of the next month, Alserkal Avenue’s full programme of Ramadan events is just the place to start. Taking in everything from evening photo walks to storytelling, exhibitions to board games, there’s heaps on offer, whatever your interests.

Board games night at A4 Space
Every Wednesday night during Alserkal Lates, A4 Space will turn into a board games hub, with the help of locally based Boardgame Space, which champions games played face to face. Entry is free and open to all.

Cinemajlis at Cinema Akil
Cinema Akil and Project Chaiwala transform the venue into a majlis, where guests can break their fast with South Asian cuisine, followed by screenings of award-winning Arab films. Iftar is served, followed by films at 9pm and 11pm on weekdays, and pre-iftar screenings on weekends.

Majlis Storytelling at The Yard
Settle in for an evening of imaginative narration performed by The Storytelling Company. Inspired by centuries of tradition, tales of folklore and legend will be told during a one-off interactive evening at The Yard’s specially assembled majlis. The evening is free to attend.

Meditation with House of Pause
Ferina Natasya from House of Pause explores the meaning of ‘fast’ and ‘cleanse’ with a three-part meditation series titled Root, Release and Rise, guiding attendees through exercises covering breathwork, visualisation and slowing down. Sessions are free to attend, but advance registration is required.

Ramadan Night Market at The Odd Piece
Peruse pieces from fashion brands including Crown & Feather, Free Being, Aranaz and more at The Odd Piece, which is hosting its Ramadan Night Market across two consecutive evenings this May.

SOUND.ON Streetwear Activation at A4 Space
Big into urban attire? SOUND.ON Streetwear is a clothing line by Leen Nizameddin, a Syrian artist and designer on a mission to spread positivity and raise awareness of the world’s refugee crisis. Bring garments from home, or buy something new, and let the artists provide live customisation during the event. For every item sold, a percentage is donated to support a child in need through a partnership with UAE-based charity The Big Heart Foundation.

Suhoor Strolls with Gulf Photo Plus
Join GPP and head out on a photo walk covering one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods – Karama. Come armed with you camera or smartphone, and ready to capture the streets as they spring to life after iftar. Session priced at AED295 per person – head online to book your spot.
