Samsung’s new AI can make the Mona Lisa talk
Remember the talking portraits in Hogwarts? Well, that magic has come to the real world with Samsung’s (slightly creepy) new AI.
Engineers at the South Korean conglomerate have now developed realistic talking heads that can be generated from a single image, which means everything from a simple selfie to famed paintings can now be fully animated.
Created by the Samsung AI Center and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, can make it look like the Mona Lisa is having a full on conversation.
Check out how it all works in the YouTube video below:
"Such ability has practical applications for telepresence, including videoconferencing and multiplayer games, as well as the special effects industry," researchers have stated.
The system works by training itself on a series of landmark facial features that can then be manipulated.
A lot of the training was done on a publicly available database called VoxCeleb, along with a huge number of videos of people talking to the camera.
With such success, think about what the technology could do for deepfakes? The last stage in the process checks for 'perfect realism', which basically takes out any unreal looking frames.
What else is new in the technology world? Tech company AMD’s ‘Next Generation’ products is pushing the limits of gaming.
We’re still getting over how real the Mona Lisa looks…
