Right petrol heads. That promotion hasn’t come through, you’re still single, and no longer get brunch invites. Only one thing will sharpen your image: get a new car. From Fiats to Ferraris, all the car giants are planning new launches in 2016. But which are the best? It isn’t clear yet exactly when (and if all) these models will make it to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but with a little help from Carmudi, here’s our run down of five motors to look out for.

Ferrari 488GTB

Ok, might as well start with a dream. Those of you rich enough will know that the 488GTB is a faster and lighter version of the 458 Italia. If you really know your Ferraris, then the fact this has a twin-turbocharged 3.9 litre V8 engine with 661 horsepower will really impress you. If you’ve never driven a Ferrari, all you need to know is that this whizzes from 0-124mph in just 8.3 seconds.
Price: AED890,833 (ouch ouch)

Honda BR-V

This is more like it… a nice small compact SUV that looks pretty cool. Perfect for singles who are short of cash. It has a 1.5 litre I-Vtec engine to produce 120 horsepower, with options for a CVT gearbox or manual transmission. If anyone laughs at you, tell them that 2016 is the year of car safety. This model has anti-locking breaks and electronic brakeforce distribution, both of which are useful for driving on Sheik Zayed Road after 5pm.
Price: AED58,720 (cheaper than a trip on Etihad’s A380 ‘The Residence’ suite)

Mitsubishi Outlander GT

For the family man, this could be a hit next year. Apart from being ideal for a trip to both Spinneys and Al Ain with the kids, the latest version of previous Outlanders boasts some cool new stuff such as a re-designed steering wheel, LED DRLs and adaptive cruise.  The GT has a 224-hp 3.0 litre V6 engine, and should you ever need it, the ability to tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Price: AED113,770 (tough competition with Mazda and Toyota at this price range)

Toyota Tacoma

The truth is most people will have absolutely no practical use for the Tacoma, apart from the pose factor. But many such people exist, which is why this was the bestselling truck in this segment last year. Not many changes to the last model, not that most buyers will care – just having the 2016 version is good enough. No amazing acceleration, but it has a new “crawl-control” program which automatically handles acceleration and braking from 1-5mph.
Price: AED80,244 (If you like the truck look, this is a bargain)

Fiat 500X

This could be a huge star in 2016. The updated version of the Fiat 500 has a 1.4 litre turbo engine that does 160 horsepower, and a cool drive mode system that gives you three different settings for different driving conditions. The new version has close to eight inches of ground clearance, bigger wheels and more safety features. But the best bit? It just looks cool.
Price: AED76,703 (worth the price to look trendy and Italian).
