Fitness folk and those looking to get fit we’ve got some great news, four-time gold medalist Michael Johnson is bring his fitness brand, Michael Johnson Performance to Dubai this year.

Located in Mina Rashid, the 38,750 sq ft facility will feature personal training sessions, group fitness classes, sports medicine and nutrition as well as development programs for athletes of all ages and experience levels.

The gym that is set to open this October will be staffed by world-class trainers and will be Johnson’s first in the region and his first facility outside of the US.

“The state-of-the-art facility in Dubai is the region’s first sports performance training and fitness center and it will enable every athlete to achieve their potential, regardless of age, gender, limitation, sport or natural ability,” explained the former Olympic sprinter.

While we wait patiently wait for it to open, here’s a list of three great fitness activities to try in the meantime.

Bounce

Dubai Fitness Activities - Bounce

Trampolining might not come top of most lists of manly pursuits, but you’ll certainly get a full workout. The dodgeball sessions are great for settling old scores with friends, while the X-Park parkour course will test test your agility and mental strength.

Wakeboarding

The sport involves having two feet strapped to a board while being pulled behind a speedboat. Anyone who’s snowboarded before should get the hang of it quite easily – mastering it is the fun part. Rushing across the bright blue sea with stunning views of Dubai in the background is an adrenaline rush in itself before you even start pulling out tricks.

Rock climbing

Dubai Fitness Activities - Rock climbing

Why not work up a sweat by tackling Dubai’s highest climbing wall? It took two years to build, and at 15-metres tall, Dorell Sport’s outdoor wall, known as, ahem, The Wall, can be found at the World Trade Centre. Rock up (sorry) and instructors will give you basic coaching before deciding what coloured “rocks” you should be clinging onto on your way up. Once you’ve done that, you can probably think about heading to Ras Al Khaimah with nothing but a pot of chalk and a sense of adventure. Don’t forget your factor 30.
