If you thought it was all about yoga, then think again. Pilates is a low impact, full body workout that has gained popularity for its celebrity following and numerous health benefits. Improving strength, stability, posture, balance, flexibility and muscle pain, it’s a favourite amongst muscle men and OAPs alike.  Even Scottish tennis player Andy Murray has turned to the healing benefits of pilates to ease aches and recuperate after a particularly gruelling season.

The main types of classes available are pilates mat and pilates reformer, the latter being performed using a specially designed piece of equipment. More recently you’ll even find exercise classes that mix pilates moves with other workouts. Take for example ‘piloxing’, which is a fusion of pilates, boxing and dance moves.
