‘Happy That Twitter Now In Sane Hands’: Donald Trump Is Ecstatic About Elon Musk’s Acquisition

Donald Trump praised Elon Musk for his takeover of Twitter which was finalized after months of speculation regarding the future of the major social media platform. 

“I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country” posted the former president of the United States on his self-founded social media platform Truth Social. 

Donald Trump was permanently banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat following his incendiary remarks shared that apparently incited violence during the Jan 6th, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The permanent ban of the former POTUS was heavily criticized by the founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX who had said back in May this year that he would reverse the ‘permaban’.

Musk thinks that it was a morally bad decision to ban Trump permanently as it undermines the trust in Twitter as a town square where everyone can voice their opinion.

“Banning Trump from Twitter didn’t end Trump’s voice,” Musk said in a live interview with Financial Times. “It will amplify it among the right, and this is why it is morally wrong and flat-out stupid.

Now, that doesn’t mean that somebody gets to say whatever they want to say. If they say something that is illegal or otherwise just destructive to the world, then there should perhaps be a time-out, a temporary suspension, or that particular tweet should be made invisible or have very limited traction.”

When asked whether he would rejoin Twitter after Elon Musk’s resolve to ban the permaban, Trump replied in an interview with Fox News Digital “I am staying on Truth. I like it better, I like the way it works, I like Elon, but I’m staying on Truth.”

Looking to plug his own social media platform while extending friendlies with the world’s wealthiest man, Donal Trump made some rather baseless statements regarding the success of Truth Social. “Truth Social has become somewhat of a phenomenon. Last week it had bigger numbers than all other platforms, including TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, and the rest” he claimed in a Truth Social post without citing any evidence. “It also looks and works better to my eye” he added in the post. 

The $44 billion buyout deal for Twitter culminated on Thursday with the new CEO or “Chief Twit” (newly added bio) Elon Musk seen posting a video carrying a sink into the Twitter HQ under the caption “Let that sink in”. 

His later post “the bird is freed” was soon followed by the EU’s Internal Markets Commissioner Thierry Breton’s whimsical tweet “In Europe, the bird will fly by our rules,”. 

Breton had traveled to Texas months ago to meet with Elon where the two shared that there was “no disagreement” over their approach to content. 

Elon Musk taking charge over the most widely used political commentary social media platform was not heartily welcomed by all. Many Twitter users voiced their concern over the repercussions of providing a podium for those instigating violence and abuse online. 

By reversing the ban, he would be unwinding the content moderation efforts and making Twitter an uncomfortable place for its more vulnerable users, such as women, the LGBTQ community, and other discriminated minorities. 

“Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints. No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes”. Safety experts believed that this will roll back the progress Twitter has made in cracking down on accounts that promote fake news, abuse, and spam.

To tone down the increasingly worrying Tweets, Elon tagged his previous content moderation council post with a reassuring tweet today “To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies”. So it seems safe to assume that Twitter will function more or less like before.
