Food Tech Valley To Triple Dubai Food Production

The Food Tech Valley project of Dubai is all set to triple the quantity of food being produced in the Emirate. The Food Tech Valley project was launched with the aim to unite the complete food and agriculture ecosystem. It was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Vice President, and Prime Minister of the UAE in 2021. 

The project intends to build a modern city that incorporates integrated food management in its activities

The Food Tech Valley project focuses on creating an interest in innovative and youthful minds to shape the food future of the nation. Dubai aims to be a pioneer in this field with the project.

It will eventually establish itself as a brand and set standards for sustainably maintained food systems globally and regionally.

A recent meeting was held between the MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, and the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri and the CEO of Wasl Asset Management Group, Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim to discuss possible collaborations to support the Food Tech Valley initiative.

Al Tayer said that the Food Tech Valley project represents the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He further expressed his confidence in the project and that it will be a significant move toward achieving the goal of sustainable food security.

By supporting the varied knowledge-based economy of the UAE and Dubai, it will also foster innovation in the food industry. 

He emphasized that the DEWA will support the efforts made by the UAE and other nations to alleviate hunger as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

The Dubai Food Tech Valley project will serve as an important hub for research, development, and applied research. The food producers and farmers in the UAE and around the world would be benefited from this. 

By establishing food standards for the future with the support of modern technology, the project will serve as a benchmark for keeping up with the food patterns in the future, he said. 

The meeting was attended by many other officials like the Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Sustainable Communities and Acting Assistant Under-Secretary for Green Development and Climate Change at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Essa Al Hashmi; the Chief Real Estate Officer of Real Estate Development at Wasl Asset Management Group, Rashed Mohammed Al Awadhi.

Other members like the Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, Waleed bin Salman; the Executive Vice President of Energy and Water Planning, Yousef Jebril and other officials of DEWA were present at the meeting.

Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment said that the wise leadership of the UAE places high priority on strengthening the food security on sustainable foundations and addressing issues and challenges related to national food security. This consists of raising agricultural and food production and reducing reliance on imports. 

Thus, the Food Tech Valley project plays an important role in this sector. It concentrates on creating modern technologies for the production of food and addressing the issues like water shortage and the lack of arable land.

It also promotes the entire food value chain and remains a leading example for improving food security, she said.

In 2021, the Ministry of Food and Water Security and Wasl Properties Group together launched the first phase of the Food Tech Valley, which aimed to be a leading global hub for innovation-based food security.
