E 4: King Of The Narrow Sea – Plot Summary (Spoilers Ahead)

Rhaenyra is unamused by her prospective grooms presented by the lords of Westeros and calls of the tour to return to the King’s landing. On her voyage back, her uncle Daemon is now seen flying back to King’s Landing after his victory in Stepstones.

A grand feast ensues briefly in King’s Landing to mend the tensions surrounding Daemon’s exile.

Later in the evening as Rhaenyra returns to her chambers she finds some commoner’s clothes and a note on her bed that reveals a secret passage in her room. She puts on the disguise including a cap to hide her hair and makes her way through the passageway, past the dragon skulls, and meets with her uncle Daemon, who is under a hooded attire.

Uncle and niece take to the streets of King’s Landing touring the place and finally arriving at a pleasure house that is hosting a massive orgy.

Rhaenyra is fascinated about the place she is in and Daemon tells her that it is where people go to take what they want. Rhaenyra and Daemon are soon found getting hot and heavy with passion while the scene cuts off to Alicent and Viserys’s similar yet unpassionate sex scene in their chambers.

Daemon hesitates to take his niece’s virginity out of wedlock and decides to leave. Rhaenyra is left confused and frustrated in the pleasure house and now she returns to her chambers where Ser Criston Cole was standing on guard outside her door. Rhaenyra drags him inside her chambers and seduces him into bed.

Word is out about the brothel scene of Daemon and Rhaenyra and the king’s hand Otto Hightower seems not too upset by the scandalous reports from his little birds. The king hears the news from his hand and is thoroughly enraged and confronts Daemon, who tells him to wed Rhaenyra to him according to their family traditions.

Viserys fumes and reminds his brother that he is already married, to which he replies “That didn’t stop Aegon”.

“You’re no conqueror” Viserys hits back at Daemon and exiles him to Vale to go back to his wife.

Viserys now confronts Rhaenyra and revokes her choice of finding her groom and tells her to wed Ser Laenor Velaryon. Rhaenyra promises to oblige if the King rids Otto Hightower as Hand of the King. Viserys realizes that his loyal and wise advisor is now scheming the ambition that is clouding his judgment and decides to strip him of his position.

The episode ends with the Grand Maester bringing a bottle of Potion B to Rhaenyra at night and telling her it’s a tea sent by the king to rid her of any “unintended consequences”.

Where and How to watch House of the Dragon:

You can stream all the released episodes of House of the Dragon on HBO and HBO Max.

If you don’t have a subscription to HBO Max, you can probably find other websites streaming them for free, although it is not generally advised.

E5 Trailer – What can we expect:

The trailer for the fifth episode titled “We Light the Way” is out and scenes seem to be aggravating at King’s Landing.

The rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent is only bound to exacerbate with the dismissal of Otto Hightower in the previous episode.

The wedding looms in question with Rhaenyra’s succession going to be challenged as we hear in the trailer.

“The King will die” was an ominous line from the trailer which is giving us Ned Stark flashbacks as we are nearing the end of the season. Although any key character deaths seem improbable in the next episode, we can’t surely write it off with the stakes getting higher as the plot unravels.

Conclusion:

The storyline is picking up speed with mounting tensions between different factions and aggravating relationships.

Compared to a rather slow start to the series, certain scenes feel sped up and hurried without allowing for the necessary character development. We find Daemon exiled, brought back, and then exiled again within 2 days of his return and not shown the reasons for his actions or his true motives.

The next episode should surely advance the expected rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent and we’ll have to watch and see how the arranged marriage is going to progress.
