Rock Werchter, Leuven
When: June 29-July 2
Who’s playing?  Radiohead, Kings Of Leon, Alt-J.
Insider tips: Grab a late lunch at Let’s Meat, where you can get the most amazing steak, with fries to die for, and ice-cold beverages on tap. Then go in search of the North West Walls – graffiti from the world’s best street artists.

NOS Alive, Lisbon
When: July 6-8
Who’s playing?  Foo Fighters, The XX, The Weeknd, Depeche Mode.
Insider tips: Camping in the Lisbon heat isn’t everyone’s idea of fun for a summer holiday, but it’s unlike anything you get at other major festivals in Europe. It’s like a secret grassy oasis in the middle of the city. Amazing.

Sziget, Budapest
When: August 9-16
Who’s playing? Major Lazer, Wiz Khalifa, Mac DeMarco, Bad Religion.
Insider tips: You might have been to this mega-festival four times in a row and still barely scratched the surface of its attractions. Don’t miss the Luminarium – a trippy maze that suits the general ambiance.

Flow, Helsinki
When: August 11-13
Who’s playing? Lana Del Rey, Aphex Twin, Frank Ocean.
Insider tips: You can ride a bike through the forests in Helsinki’s Central Park before the festival, or check out the various types of Finnish hospitality. Oh, and get taxis everywhere – the drivers listen to loud heavy metal.
