There’s nothing like heading to work on the Dubai Metro, only to realise that you’ve either left your headphones at home or worse, you’ve left your book on your bed side table.

Lucky for us, and you, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has launched a brand new initiative that aims to entertain you during your daily commute on the train.

The Read More initiative offers passengers the chance to select a book from one of the RTA libraries housed in the city’s many metro stations. Once finished, passengers can return the book to the same library or to one belonging to a different metro station.

If you’d rather not carry a physical book or like us, are bad with returning things, you can download a book and read it on the go by downloading the Read with RTA app. The app, which was launched earlier this week, features over 150 books that are available in a number of languages such as Arabic, English and Urdu. The app is available to all iOS and Android users.

The Read with RTA app also features a number of audio books for those who prefer to listen rather than read. Currently, the audio books are available in English, Arabic, Urdu, Malayalam and Tagalog. And, much like the E-books are available on both Android and iOS devices.

Speaking on the initiative, the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication, Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector for the RTA Moaza Al Marri said: “The Read with the RTA app enables community members, especially public transport commuters as well as visitors of Customer Happiness Centres, to download up to 150 books in Arabic or English [that are] offered in the app free of charge.”

Al Marri explains that all passengers have to do is scan the book’s QR Code to activate the book of their choosing. Once they’ve done that, the book will display on their smartphone screen for a certain period of time.
