Dubai's immigration process to be cut to just 10 seconds
There's nothing like coming back from a nice relaxing holiday to find yourself stuck in a long line, waiting to get your passport stamped. You can almost feel the Zen that you acquired during your week long trip to Bali fade away as the child in front of you continues to cry and the lady beside you, continues to tap her feet, louder and louder.
From the end of May onwards, terminals at Dubai Airport will be equipped with Smart Gates. These "gates" will allow passengers to skip the manual immigration queue and complete the process via the use of the GDRFA smartphone app.
All users have to do is scan their passport, Emirates ID, e-gate card or QR barcode and their details will be processed via the app.
Speaking on the news, Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai (GDRFA-Dubai) said that the new gate will enable each passenger to pass through immigration "within only 10 seconds".
He added that: "It is seven seconds faster than e-gate when processing a passenger’s credentials and provides the quickest way through passport control."
