UAE to get 10km Hyperloop by 2020
We've been talking about the Hyperloop for ages, and now it looks like the UAE will be getting its first hyperloop by 2020.
According to an agreement signed by Hyperloop Transportation Technologies and Aldar Properties this past Wednesday, the construction phase of the project is set to start in Abu Dhabi imminently.
The 10km route will be developed close to the Expo 2020 site and the Al Maktoum International Airport.
Speaking on the news, Bibop Gresta, chairman of HyperloopTT said: "This agreement creates the basis for the first commercial Hyperloop system in the world here in the Emirates, with the goal of eventually connecting Abu Dhabi to Al Ain, Dubai, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia."
He added: "With regulatory support, we hope the first section will be operational in time for Expo 2020."
The deal will also see the construction of HyperloopTT’s XO Square Innovation Centre and a Hyperloop Visitor Centre in Aldar’s Seih Al Sdeirah landbank in Abu Dhabi.
If you're new to the party, here's what you need to know about the hyperloop.
- The concept of Hyperloop was developed by scientist and entrepreneur Elon Musk.
- Construction of the first full-scale passenger and freight prototype system began earlier this month in Toulouse, France. The delivery of the first passenger capsule is expected to arrive later this year.
- The developers promise that the technology used will be affordable and sustainable as it will run on renewable sources of energy.
