January 4, Wednesday will witness the 17th accession anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The occasion will be an important marker in the journey of the UAE to become one of the most developed economies in the world.
People from all around the world shared their wishes for the leader of the UAE. After the accession of Sheikh Mohammed in 2006, the UAE has vaulted onto become a global hub that is rising ahead in terms of economic and social developments.

The impressive economic track record of the UAE in the past decade has made the whole world take notice of this Emirate nation and how it is still creating an inspiring development model by diversifying its economy.
Multiple areas like tourism, finance, aviation, technology, foreign investments, trade and banking flourished under Sheikh Mohammed’s rule.
Even after the Covid-19 pandemic, UAE was one of the few nations that rose up and maintained steady economic growth when the rest of the world was struggling.
The tourism sector of the UAE also created a major growth in the economy and in the future also, the emirate nation plans to develop its tourism sector to better heights.
In 2022, UAE achieved a lot of innovative and developmental milestones and Sheikh Mohammed dedicated last year’s accession anniversary to doing good. He had contributed Dh 100 million to fund a project that aims at identifying thousand of Arab pioneers belonging to different economic areas.
On December 12, Sheikh Mohammed approved the second stage of Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan. This long-term project will be covering around ten major economic initiatives aimed at developing the infrastructure of Dubai.
It will include the development of Dubai’s Urban Centers, Urban farming plan, Preserving the Urban heritage plan, The 20-minute Dubai City Policy, Pedestrian network master plan etc. Apart from this, certain initiatives from the first phase of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan were reviewed by Sheikh Mohammed which had around seventeen projects.
On December 7, the Prime Minister announced that the non-oil economy of the UAE created a new record of Dh 1.6 trillion, which was an impressive increase of almost 19 percent when compared to the values of 2021.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed confidence in the non-oil sector of the UAE and projects that the values will be much higher in the coming years.
During the National day on December 1, Sheikh Mohammed addressed the UAE citizens and assured them that the nation would attain new heights in the coming fifty years. He also announced housing policies, Emiratisation policies and other projects for the locals.
In the last quarter of 2022, the UAE Cabinet chaired by Sheikh Mohammed approved the budget for 2023-26 by keeping aside a lump sum amount of Dh 252.3 billion for the different development projects. The estimated revenue from the three-year-long budget model is valued at Dh 255.7 billion.
The UAE Tourism Strategy 2031 was also launched during the month of November last year to make UAE one of the most sought-after tourism destinations in the world. As of today, UAE is ranked among the top ten tourist destinations in the world and the Emirate nation will invest Dh 100 billion in the industry to create a more diversified tourism sector capable of welcoming around forty million hotel guests by the year 2031.
As part of International charity efforts, Sheikh Mohammed instructed to contribute emergency aid of Dh 50 million for relief purposes in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan. There was a massive flood in the Sindh and Balochistan areas of Pakistan from June to October that caused the loss of lives and property on a devastating scale.
A Dh 1 billion worth of library called the Mohammed bin Rashid Library was inaugurated by the Ruler of Dubai in the month of June last year. The library hoped to be a beacon of knowledge and cultivate the habit of reading among UAE citizens.
Apart from this, Sheikh Mohammed also instructed the distribution of around three million books in different schools in the Arab world to increase the reading habit among the students. The educational system was also going through a restructuring and Belhoul Al Falasi was appointed as the new Education Minister to review the educational policies and to make necessary amends.
Another major decision made under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed was the renewal of federal law regarding entry into the UAE with the introduction of the Golden Visa, Green Visa, Job exploration Visa, Business entry visa etc. This step opened up the UAE economy to more foreign investments and an international talent pool who wish to come to the UAE for work and residence.
