FIRST LOOK: Jennifer Lawrence in Joy
Okay, so it might sound like the plot of a Lifetime movie, but Joy has enough class behind the wheel that it is aleady being talked about as a potential award winner next year. It is based on the true story of Joy Mangeno, a single mother who invents the Miracle Mop, with some feel-good similarities with the unlikely urban fable Flash of Genius, the 2008 film about the invention of the intermittent windshield wiper.
Joy is also the latest collaboration between Lawrence, director David O Russell and Bradley Cooper, a trio who had previosuly worked together on Silver Linings Playbook and the oddly wonderful American Hustle. Lawrence and Cooper also appeared together in Serena. In this outing, though, Cooper provides the supporting role, playing an executive at a home shopping channel that wants to lend the mop a hand, so to speak.
It is set for release in early in 2016.
