The Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was present at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in Dubai on Thursday, March 2, 2023, to witness the live launch of the Zayed Ambition 2 mission. The Zayed Ambition 2 mission is led by Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, who is one of three astronauts on the mission, including two NASA astronauts. On board a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, they will travel to the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission, which is carrying a team of astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), is scheduled to arrive at the station on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 10:17 a.m. UAE time.

The mission’s Mission Specialist is Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, who is joined by three other astronauts from NASA and Roscosmos. In collaboration with NASA, ESA, CSA, JAXA, and CNES, the team will conduct 19 scientific studies covering a wide range of topics. The research will focus on cardiovascular and immune system health, back pain, epigenetics, and radiation.
Aside from scientific research, the mission’s educational outreach efforts aim to inspire and engage the next generation of scientists and explorers. The Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) is receiving funding from the MBRSC for two research projects that will involve students and researchers in developing and qualifying future generations of scientists.
The Zayed Ambition 2 Mission is part of the UAE Astronaut Programme, which is managed by MBRSC and funded by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority’s ICT Fund (TDRA).
