There are quite a few brunches to get stuck into this weekend, with a new monthly offering at The Act, as well as a more chilled out Saturday option. Analog Room are throwing their season opening party, while those who are looking for a fit and healthy weekend should head along to Ripe Market or try out some partner yoga.

Authentically American Saturday Brunch
American food does seem uniquely suited to weekends, especially when there is nothing on the agenda other than sitting around eating with friends and family – and the success of several new US-style eateries does underline the point.
Latitude in Jumeirah Beach Hotel has caught this welcome bug and has just launched its new American-themed Saturday brunch, which has goodies such as stuffed jalapenos, beef brisket, chicken wings, burgers, smoked sliders and sweet potato chips. The desserts are the calorific, guilt-inducing indulgence you’d expect, too. Bring a group and dive in.

Cinema – Independence Day: Resurgence (15)
It’s 20 years since Earth was last devastated by a July 4th alien invasion and the plucky planet has managed to rebuild itself, complete with a massive new defensive apparatus. The intergalactic invaders are back, though, having received a distress signal from the vessels lost last time around. With Will Smith no longer on the job, it’s left to Liam Hemsworth – who was orphaned in the first attack – to save everyone. Expect effects galore.
In cinemas from July 7
