7 spots to get hot dogs in Dubai

1. This Is Hot Dog
A restaurant selling nothing but a large variety of hot dogs would seem to be a decent place to start for hot dog lovers. The menu has an international feel to it with items like the Italian dog, the Mexican dog and the Japanese dog, all piled high (a bit too high?) with fillings as diverse as mango slices and black olives. While probably opt for the Classic, the Business Box contains six mini dogs which is both great for experimenting and trying to look graceful while eating with friends or colleagues.

2. The Hot Dog Stand
The Last Exit is proving to be a popular pit-stop on the way to (or from) Dubai Parks and Resorts or on the way back from Abu Dhabi. Hot dog lovers can shun the variety of food trucks and head straight to The Hot Dog Stand. Open 24 hours, it has three signature hot dogs and gives you the luxury to build your own. You can choose between a chicken and beef dog and top it off with a large variety of toppings: relish, onions, guacamole, pineapple and even nachos. Go crazy. A side of jalapeno poppers also needs to be tried. There are also brick-and-mortar branches in Dubai Media City and Dubai Marina.

3. Midnight Café
This tiny café tucked away deep in the lanes of the Karama has a wide variety of food on offer, but the hot dogs are something of a specialty. From spicy gourmet varieties like the Desi Dynamite Dog and Dynamite Dog with cheese and mushroom to old classics like chicken dog and cheese dog, there ought to be one to suit your palate – and at less than AED20 each, you can maybe grab a couple. The Veg Desi Dog means that vegetarians need not miss out, either.

Although this mollusc-shaped hut on The beach in JBR is meant to be British themed, there are rather a lot of American favourites on the menu here – the club Sandwich and BBQ Chicken Platter to name but two. The beef hot dog is another, and is definitely worthy of inclusion on this list. Char-grilled and served with onions and mustard, it keeps it simple – just as we like it.

Ordering a hot dog might seem a peculiar waste of a trip to Shake Shack, but the three types on offer here are both excellent options if you can’t face another flame-grilled patty. The Hot Dogs at Shake Shack are no-fuss ones affairs, with the New York Style and Cheese Dog serving up simple combos. The Shack-cago, though, is one mega dog, with all the classic toppings and bursting with flavours. Relish, mustard, onions and the right amount of cheese, this is your dream hot dog. Extra cheese and cherry pepper can be added for just AED6.

6. Perry & Blackwelder’s Original Smokehouse
Located in Madinat Jumeirah, this is the place for a more upmarket hot dog experience. Although they have only two selections of hot dogs, The Chillli Cheese Dog and Mad Dog, they both live up to the smokehouse’s promise to sticking close to their American roots. If you would rather savour your lunch rather than wolf it down because you’re late for the cinema, then this is the place for you.

7. Zoom
Honestly, trust us on this. The little red-and-yellow mini-marts in Enoc gas stations (and elsewhere, of course) do a pretty mean hot dog. Sure, they’re a little basic, but the flavour is all there and if you’re at the end of a road trip or a 14-hour day, then they’ll prove to be a piping hot lifesaver.
