6 things to do in Dubai this weekend

It’s now bearable to be outside during daylight hours… actually, it’s pleasant, so this weekend it’s all about the great outdoors. Those who fancy an action-packed day can head along to color run, or just lie back and relax at the outdoor cinema in JLT. We’ve also got an outdoor brunch, a gadget show to make Q jealous, and the return of El Classico.

JLT outdoor cinema
For the third year running, every fortnight between now and April, JLT park (nestled between clusters O and P) will be back to doubling as an outdoor screening venue. The scheduled movies are a far cry from your typical blockbuster fare however, with the opening film on November 20 set to be Castle In The Sky, a Japanese animé aimed at kids. But there’s nothing wrong with broadening your children’s film horizons is there? It gets less esoteric from then on, with the classic Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn being shown the very next day.
When: From 5pm, Fridays and Saturdays
Where: JLT Park, Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Frunch at Radisson Blu
When it comes to brunch, the winning recipe is all about great food, classic tunes and a party atmosphere. Certo Italian Restaurant at Radisson Blue ticks every box, with a spread of Spanish tapas, pizza, pasta, and English pub grub. Given the fantastic weather at the moment, an outdoor area is a must, and this place offers a terrace complete with a live BBQ station. Packages are AED249 with soft drinks and AED359 with house beverages and bubbly.
When: Every Friday 12.30pm to 4.30pm
Where: Radisson Blue, 04 3669163 or email

Big Boys Toys
Ok, we know that this is in Abu Dhabi, but it’s worth the trip. Imagine asking Bruce Wayne, Bill Gates and Richard Branson what they want for their birthday. Then combine them. The result would probably look something like Big Boys Toys, the sixth edition of which takes place this weekend in Abu Dhabi. Over AED400 million-worth of automobiles, tech-gadgets and ludicrously extravagant lifestyle products will be on display for guests to ogle at, drool over and generally covet with adolescent ardour as ADNEC is transformed into the quintessential adult’s playground.
When: November 19-21
Where: Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre,

The color run 2015
The Color Run (don’t get us started on the Americanised spelling)returns for its third year this weekend, with 12,000 participants taking on a five-kilometre track, doused with a variety of brightly hued powders along the way. Don’t worry, it all washes off… so they tell us.
When: November 21
Where: Dubai Autodrome, Motor City,

El Clasico: Real Madrid vs Barcelona
Despite sustaining a bad knee injury in late September, it will come as a great dismay to Real Madrid fans that the world’s best player, Leo Messi (sorry Cristiano, we know you have a different opinion on that) will probably be fit for this weekend’s El Clasico. At any rate, the tale of the table is this: while Barcelona are currently perched at La Liga’s summit, their lead is a precarious one. With the best goal difference in the division, and only seven goals conceded, a Madrid win would mean Los Blancos leapfrog their bitter rivals. It’s still early days, sure, but it would be a statement of intent from new coach Rafa Benitez. Last year served up two classic bouts between this pair and we expect much of the same here.
When: 9.15pm, November 21
Where: BEIN Sports

Groove on the Grass
2015’s second Groove on the Grass event will undergo a Red Bull Music Academy takeover, housing a varied mix of electronic anthems and burgeoning artists, curated from Red Bull’s international series of music workshops and festivals.
When: November 20
Where: Emirates Golf Club,
