The Fabelmans has been a much talked about and awaited movie that has been directed by Steven Spielberg. The movie itself is believed to be a very important project for Spielberg and has been in the works since 1999. Originally titled I’ll Be Home; it tells the tale of a young boy growing up in the 40s and 50s. It is a bildungsroman that is loosely based on Spielberg’s own early years hence all the buzz around it.

The story was co-written by Tony Kushner along with Spielberg. Kushner is a Pulitzer-winning playwright and has previously collaborated with Spielberg in 3 of his movies.

They have co-scripted some of Spielberg’s finest works so The Fabelmans has been on the radar of film enthusiasts and critics alike.

John Williams has done the music for the Fablemans and the movie marks their 29th film together, which in itself is an achievement. 

The Fabelmans Plot

As per Spielberg, the story had been on his mind for a long time and the original title- I’ll be Home was written by his sister- Anne Spielberg. The story follows a young boy trying to navigate through life and through growing up post-World War 2. It traces his discovery of films and the impact they can have on real life. The film has been dedicated to Spielberg’s parents – Leah Adler and Arnold Spielberg.

As for the line-up, the movie has Gabriel LaBelle, Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Mateo Zoryon Francis-Deford, Judd Hirsch, and Jeannie Berlin playing the major parts.

The Fabelmans Release Date

The movie had its first limited preview on July 26 in New York. Then, it had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film festival on September 10, 2022.

It was screened at the Princess of Wales Theater where it was well received and the audience gave the film two standing ovations. As of now, it is slated to have a United States premiere during the AFI Fest scheduled to be held at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles on November 7, 2022.

After that, the movie will be released by Universal Pictures in a number of select theaters in Los Angeles and New York on November 11th and it will have a nationwide release on November 23rd in the United States.

It is a movie on every film buff’s “to watch” list and one of the most anticipated movies of 2022. 

Conclusion 

According to Spielberg himself, The Fabelmans is one of his most personal projects and very close to his heart.

The biggest apprehension about bringing the movie to life was the kind of judgement it would receive from his parents.

The fear of the movie being taken as an insult to their parenting loomed large on his mind, however, he also wanted to put his heart and soul into it.

The movie is something that he holds very close to his heart.
