Ain Dubai Worlds tallest Ferry Wheel remains closed

Ain Dubai, the world’s biggest and largest Ferris wheel is not reopening anytime soon. Primarily closed for maintenance reasons in March 2022, it was announced that Ain Dubai would remain closed until the end of Ramadan, which happened to be on April 2nd of 2022.  This time frame was again extended until the end of summer 2022.

A further extension was announced until the first quarter of 2023. And Ain Dubai has now officially announced that it would remain closed until further notice. Unlike previous announcements, they have not provided any possible reopening dates this time but have informed us that when a date is said they would announce it. And to add to the anticipation Ain Dubai has announced new and exciting offers once they reopen.

With an astonishing height of 250 Meters (820 feet), a ride on Ain Dubai gives you a scenic view of Dubai Marina including some of the well-known attractions of Dubai like Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah, and Burj Khalifa. Ain is the Arabic word for eye,  which was titled hinting at the breathtaking bird’s eye view the visitors receive when they are on the ride. Ain Dubai has 48 air-conditioned cabins and can accommodate 1750 visitors. It takes over 30 minutes to complete a ride on this massive wheel. The length of each permanent spoke of this observation wheel is longer than a football pitch.

It is massive enough to fit 15 London buses inside each leg. Two of the world’s largest cranes were used to assemble the components of this ride. Ain Dubai beats the record height of the High Roller in Las Vegas by over 80 meters, which was opened to the public on March 31, 2014. Since October 2021 it holds the record for the second-largest roller coaster.

This tourist attraction is located on the Bluewater Islands, a man-made archipelago. Opened in October 2022 this Ferris wheel also holds the record of being the World’s tallest observation wheel. Hyundai Engineering Constructions and Starnet Engineering were designated as the primary design and construction contracts. Ain Dubai was part of the Bluewater project which was aimed at being one of the largest tourist spots in UAE.

This was a prestigious project by Meraas Holding, a Dubai-based development company with operations and assets in the UAE and overseas. The Bluewater project had retail, residential, hospitality, and entertainment zone. It is built on the land by Meraas Holding, with tedious work conducted by Van Oord, the Dutch firm notable for its work in the construction of Palm Jumeirah. The Overall cost of this prestigious project was estimated to be 6 billion AED.

The prime minister and the vice president of UAE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai approved this Bluewater project in February 2013. The construction of Ain Dubai began in May 2015 expecting completion by mid-2019, but with further delays, the inauguration was expected to be on the 20th of October 2020 coinciding with Expo 2020, which itself got postponed due to the Covid Pandemic. Ain Dubai was inaugurated a year later with lavish drones and fireworks.
