Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Launches The “Create Apps In Dubai” Initiative

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and the Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai launched “Create Apps in Dubai” on Wednesday as part of an initiative to elevate Dubai’s position as a leader in the international digital sector.

“Create Apps in Dubai” was launched in connection with the Higher Committee of Future Technology Development and Digital Economy. This program aims to develop a local talented workforce and foster an ecosystem for the emirate’s digital application development.

An initiative to transform Dubai

As part of the Higher Committee of Future Technology Development and Digital Economy’s mission to transform Dubai into a leader in the international digital sector, the country launched the Create Apps in Dubai initiative.

Its main goal is to create an innovation-driven app ecosystem in the emirate, which will help Dubai to become one of the most desirable business destinations in the world by 2025.

On launching the mission, Sheikh Hamdan said that since the establishment of Internet City, the emirate has become a significant player in the global technology arena as a result of the strategic investments made in the digital sector.

He also added that the exponential growth of digital apps and platforms, as well as the global competition for technological leadership, has occurred as a part of the global digital transformation.

Dubai aims to lead this global competition by providing an opportunity for the growth of 1,000 highly skilled UAE citizens whose ideas and innovation will nurture a thriving application sector in Dubai.

Administered by the Chamber for Digital Economy with the support of government agencies and technology companies, Create Apps in Dubai initiative aims to train a selected group of 1000 UAE citizens in collaboration with the corporate sector in Dubai.

The plan involves a project to support 30 private businesses worth more than $1 billion in becoming unicorns to propel Dubai into the top cities in the world with economic strength in the following ten years.

This initiative will help to identify the priority areas and provide developmental plans for them to empower and enable UAE citizens to play significant roles in achieving the nation’s digital vision.

It aims to assist 100 new national initiatives for the creation of cutting-edge apps that will be made available in digital app stores over the next 24 months, as well as to triple the number of app developers by 2025.

As part of engagements designed to encourage the exchange of ideas between experts, innovators, and developers, Sheikh Hamdan, the Crown Prince of Dubai met with creators of apps aimed at the global market in the domains of healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, and others.

The emirate aims to strengthen its position as a global launch pad for future-oriented technology by fostering increased sharing of digital and technological expertise.

Growth and innovation in the industry have been growing rapidly, with worldwide smartphone sales revenues surpassing $448 billion and two million new applications and games generated in 2021.

People are spending more than 160 billion dollars on applications, and in 2021 there were 230 billion downloads of applications, opening up a multitude of fresh opportunities for investors, business owners, and technology specialists.

In the Middle East and Africa, there were more than 157 million financial and business applications downloaded in 2021, an increase of 182 percent from 2018, and user spending on the top 25 electronic apps increased by 6.5 times from 2018 to 2021.

By establishing a strong digital infrastructure, creating legislation that encourages the creation of apps, and implementing government incentives, Dubai is striving to take advantage of new growth potential in the industry.

According to a recent estimate by the Boston Consulting Group, spending on digital technology, including IT, telecoms, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and robots, is anticipated to reach $20 billion in the UAE over the next three years.

It also says that for the next ten years, the UAE is well-positioned to increase the GDP share of its digital economy from 9.7 percent to 19.4 percent.

The launch of Create Apps in Dubai initiative was attended by His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, and Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy; His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism; His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of the Dubai Digital Authority; His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation; His Excellency Ahmed bin Byat, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy; His Excellency Malek Al Malek, Director General of the Dubai Development Authority and Chairman of TECOM Group; Arif Amiri, CEO of DIFC; and Saeed Al Gergawi, Vice President of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy.
