UAE President Speaks With Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi

The UAE is looking forward to Sultan Al Neyadi’s historic space mission, which is scheduled for February 27 at 10:45 a.m. (UAE time). Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi received a phone call from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan prior to his departure from the International Space Station on February 27 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The President contacted Al Neyadi to wish him well and to inquire about his health ahead of the historic mission, which will be the longest space mission ever undertaken by an Arab astronaut.

The UAE’s space programme aims to inspire future generations

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed expressed his hopes and prayers for Al Neyadi’s success in the mission and safe return home during the call. The President also congratulated Al Neyadi on his achievement and urged him to represent his country well by flying the UAE flag high in the sky.

Al Neyadi responded positively, saying that everything was fine and that they had arrived two days earlier at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He also mentioned that their parents had arrived, that there was a good crowd for everyone, and that everyone was excited and waiting for the historic moment.

The President sincerely hoped that God would protect Al Neyadi wherever he may be and that he would return to the UAE safe and sound, cherished and dear while raising the UAE flag.

The President’s well wishes demonstrate his genuine concern for Al Neyadi’s well-being, as well as his understanding of the importance of this mission to the UAE.

Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi thanked UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for always leading them with kindness and generosity, paving the way for them.

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed reminded Al Neyadi to continue working out on a daily basis so that his muscles would be strong when he returned. In response, Al Neyadi stated that they have a two-hour daily workout requirement.

It’s inspiring to see astronauts’ dedication and discipline in maintaining their physical health during long space missions, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of daily exercise for everyone’s health.

In September 2019, astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri travelled to the International Space Station (ISS) for an eight-day mission as the UAE’s first astronaut mission. During his time on the ISS, Al Mansouri conducted a number of scientific experiments and participated in a live link-up with schools in the UAE, where he answered students’ questions. 

On February 27, 2023, Sultan Al Neyadi, the second Emirati astronaut, launched on a six-month mission to the International Space Station. This mission is expected to be the Arab world’s longest space mission in history.

Al Neyadi will carry out scientific experiments and take part in a variety of activities aimed at promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education and space exploration in the UAE. The mission is viewed as part of the UAE’s ambitious space programme, which aims to inspire the country’s youth and establish the UAE as a global leader in space exploration.
