Authorities In Dubai Declare A Cycling Track To Be Partially Closed

The Al Qudra cycling track will be partially closed this Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 a.m to 6 p.m. Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority had posted on Social media that the location behind the Seih Al Salam Street intersection with Al Qudra Street would be closed as part of the Al Salam Cycling Championship.

Al Qudra is one of Dubai’s most popular cycling tracks that is used for various tournaments throughout the year. The eighty-six-kilometer track is used for Spinneys Cycle Challenge and Ironman races etc and during these events it is closed to public access.                    

Al Salam Cycling Championship is organized every year during this time and the first qualifier race started at Nazwa, Sharjah. The second qualifier was held on 27th November at Al Hudayriatt Island. The championship is meant for Emirati residents and club members only. 

Cycling Track In Dubai To Be Closed In Part, Say Authorities

Dubai and UAE are known for their active cycling communities. Back in 2016, a group of five cyclists from UAE claimed that they had cycled the whole of UAE in just one day and in about twenty-one hours.

Later this year in February, Charles Parker from the UK completed a solo bicycle trip across UAE in just 17 hours and 47 minutes and achieved the world record for the fastest crossing of the UAE.                 

Apart from this, the Al Qudra cycling track has the world record for the longest continuous bicycle track spanning a whopping 80.6 kilometers. This news comes along with the decision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, to make Dubai a bicycle-friendly city.

The earlier record for the longest bicycle track also belonged to the Al Qudra track. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Road Agency said that the Al Qudra track is not just the world’s longest bicycle track but is also made with all safety and security standards. The passage of the track also has multiple attractions like sand dunes and lakes.

Cycling professionals and enthusiasts all around the globe consider the Al Qudri track to be one of the gold standards among worldwide bicycle tracks. The continuous cycling track has sub-tracks that extend to a total of 135 kilometers and the track has around thirty emergency call phones situated along its path. It also comprises resting shades with seats and services like toilets, restaurants, and bike rental shops. 

The UAE offers multiple options for cycling enthusiasts like rental options that can provide an exhilarating bicycle ride for casual and advanced riders. The nation is also planning to expand its cycling tracks in order to make it a cycle-friendly nation.

Here are some of the major bicycling points that can be used for different types of cycling experiences. These are mainly car-free tracks so they are considered safer than the normal routes. 

  1. Yas Marina Circuit     

It is predominantly an F1 track but it is open to the public for three nights a week Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The track is 5.5 kilometers in length and free water is available. If you don’t have a cycle then you can borrow one from the Cleveland clinic stand. There is online registration available and it is recommended to get a pass online. 

  1. Mushrif National Park 

This place offers mountain bike enthusiasts the perfect route as it has a long fifty-kilometer mountain bike track. The tracks are color-coded so that we can choose our desired difficulty level.   

  1. Al Wathba   

Other than Al Qudra, Al Wathba is a ninety-six-kilometer desert track. They provide 8k, 16k, 20k, 22k, and 30k loops for different levels of cyclists and they also provide an ADNOC shop that sells food and drinks. They also have toilet and shower services too. 

  1. Dubai’s Cycle Paths 

There are multiple points in Dubai that are meant for casual cycling and these places can be good choices for people who just want to unwind while cycling. Al Barsha Park, Jumeirah Beach, Dubai Water Canal, etc. are some major cycling paths in Dubai. 

  1. Abu Dhabi Loop      

The Abu Dhabi loop is a 109-kilometer segregated cycle path that links some major destinations across the city.         

On the other hand, the weather in UAE has become unpredictable in the past two days with rains pouring in different regions in the UAE. The temperature is also dropping in the Emirate nation to 15 degrees celsius or lower as people are getting ready for the winter.

The authorities have also issued a flash flood warning as rains can bring sudden floods in certain points around the UAE.

The Ras Al Khaimah Police said that they have closed the road leading to Jebel Jais because of the rains. The officials have also warned motorists to drive carefully during the rain. So it is advisable to look at the weather warnings and plan your cycling trips.
