AED 400 Fine For Pedestrians Crossing The Road From Unmarked Locations In UAE Under The Federal Traffic Law

The Abu Dhabi Police Department has launched an awareness campaign to promote pedestrian and driver safety, with a particular emphasis on run-over accidents. The month-long campaign, which coincides with Gulf Traffic Week, is one of Abu Dhabi Police’s strategic priorities for improving road safety and raising traffic awareness.

As part of the campaign, the Abu Dhabi Police Department will hold a variety of activities and events to educate both pedestrians and drivers on the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations. The campaign will also emphasise the dangers of run-over accidents, especially among children and the elderly.

Educating Pedestrians On Road safety Through Safety Campaigns

Brigadier General Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Acting Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, emphasised the Abu Dhabi Police Department’s commitment to promoting road safety through educational campaigns.

He emphasized the importance of educating pedestrians about safe road crossing and the importance of obeying traffic signals, especially in high-traffic areas. Brigadier General Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, highlighted the importance of encouraging all segments of society, regardless of nationality, to follow traffic laws. As part of the campaign, awareness messages will be distributed in Arabic, English, and Urdu to reach a wider audience. 

He also praised the efforts of the Department of Municipalities and Transport-Abu Dhabi in collaborating with the police to improve pedestrian safety. He highlighted various initiatives, such as building bridges on internal and external roads, improving pedestrian crossings, providing passages controlled by light signals, and closing gaps in road fences to improve public safety. The campaign aims to improve overall road safety in the emirate of Abu Dhabi by bringing together the police, the Department of Municipalities and Transport-Abu Dhabi, and the general public. The campaign serves as a reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility, and that everyone must do their part to keep themselves and others safe.

Brigadier General Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi elaborated on the penalties for pedestrian safety violations. According to the Federal Traffic Law, failing to give way to pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing results in a Dhs500 fine and 6 points, while stopping or parking in a way that disrupts pedestrian movement results in a Dhs400 fine.

Al Baloushi also advised pedestrians to obey traffic signals when crossing streets. He emphasised that failing to obey pedestrian traffic signals or crossing from undesignated areas can result in a Dhs400 fine under the law.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of following traffic rules and regulations by outlining the penalties for traffic violations related to pedestrian safety. The Abu Dhabi Police hope that this initiative will encourage both pedestrians and drivers to prioritise road safety, resulting in a reduction in the emirate’s number of road accidents and casualties.
