Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Meets With Meta President Of Global Affairs

The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, met with Mr Nick Clegg, the President of Global Affairs at Meta. The meeting was held beside the ongoing World Government Summit 2023 that is currently happening in Dubai.

Sir Nicholas William Peter Clegg, Nick Clegg, is a former British politician who served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the Lord President of the Council from 2010 until 2015 under the term of David Cameron as Prime Minister.

Later on, Nick joined Facebook as the Vice President of Global Affairs and Communication and was later repositioned as the President of Global Affairs at Meta in 2022, after Facebook was rebranded as Meta.

During the discussion with Nick Clegg, Sheikh Hamdan noted that Dubai is looking forward to all possibilities to have deeper collaborative partnerships with global technology leaders such as Meta to better achieve the vision of the leadership to make Dubai a major player in shaping the digital future of the world.

To achieve the vision and goals that are laid out, the emirate is very keen on strengthening cooperation with the leading companies in the world that operates in the technology and digital space.

Sheikh Hamdan also stated that the partnerships that Dubai expects to put in place with leading global tech companies are also extremely important for achieving the objectives laid out under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which was recently unveiled by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, with the aim of doubling Dubai’s economy over the next decade with a target set of AED32 trillion to be achieved by the year 2033.

Part of the objectives set to achieve the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 involves accelerating the investments done in the fields of advanced technology within the emirate as well as the idea to attract experienced talent in the digital fields and advanced technologies to Dubai to increase the competitiveness locally.

Dubai has been involved in establishing strategic partnerships with Meta over the last two years since Facebook rebranded itself as Meta and launched the Metaverse. For the unaware, Metaverse is considered to be the next innovation of the internet, which is basically a virtual 3-dimensional world that people live in.

Metaverse will be implemented using technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality which will provide people with a real-life simulation in the Metaverse.

Facebook is betting heavily on the concept of Metaverse, and so is Dubai. In fact, Dubai has launched the “Dubai Metaverse Strategy” that aims to transform Dubai into a global hub for the metaverse community and one of the top 10 metaverse economies in the entire world.

With the implementation of this strategy, Dubai aims to create over 40,000 jobs virtually by the year 2030, which will assist in further advancing the emirate’s economy and also help in the vision of the government of the United Arab Emirates to increase the number of companies operating in the blockchain domain within the country up to five times the current numbers.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan also highlighted the fact that Dubai currently offers one of the best operating environments in the world for all types of companies in the tech space, from well-established brands to emerging companies and even promising startups.

The opportunities available in the emirate combined with the extensive connectivity that Dubai has with the entire world also help companies to come up with new innovative ideas and build upon them tapping into the opportunities for growth that are present anywhere in the world.

The meeting between Sheikh Hamdan and Nick Clegg was also attended by Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications as well as the Managing Director of the World Government Summit Organisation.

Meta, as a company, is no stranger to Dubai and the opportunities it offers. In fact, back in March 2022, Meta opened their offices in Dubai Internet City, which is also its regional headquarters. With the establishment of the offices in Dubai, the company is now capable of providing services to a growing number of people within the region who are increasingly using the services offered by Meta to create content as well as to advertise.

Other tech leaders are also expected to attend the ongoing World Government Summit in Dubai, including Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk. He’s also expected to be in conversation with Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, the UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Chairman of the World Government Summit Organization.

This won’t be the first time Elon Musk has attended the World Government Summit, as he was last seen attending the event back in 2017 and the interview he gave back then was very popular on the internet as he discussed some of his then-new projects and provided his deep insights in the tech space.
