Sheikh Mohammed Announces The First And Second Deputy Rulers

The ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, Vice-President and prime minister of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced the names of the first and second deputy rulers of the Emirate. On Friday he declared another of his sons as deputy rulers.

New leaders to aid more progress

The Emir of Dubai has released the issue Decree No. (21) of 2023 declaring the people in charge of the roles of First and second deputy rulers of Dubai.

With the death of the earlier deputy ruler in 2021, Sheikh Mohammed has announced his son Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as the first deputy ruler. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will take the responsibilities as the second deputy ruler.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was named the deputy ruler of Dubai along with his elder brother who was titled the crown prince in February of the year 2008. He served along with his uncle Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum until he died in 2021.

Sheikh Maktoum also chairs the Dubai Knowledge Park which was previously called Dubai Knowledge Village, which was inaugurated in 2003. Sheikh Maktoum is also in charge of the Chairman of Dubai’s Securities and Exchange Higher Committee.

This institute works to boost the emirate’s financial markets. He holds the position of Chairman of the Federal Tax Authority Board of Directors as well as the Vice Chairman of the Investment Corporation of Dubai.

Chairman of the Dubai Media Council in addition to being the President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, Sheikh Ahmed works in diverse fields to promote the growth of various fields.

And for the previous 14 years, he was also the Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation. He is an ardent promoter of the sports scene in the country and also has worked towards various initiatives to accelerate the growth of the media sector in the country.

Sheikh Ahmed also plays his part in preserving the ancient Emirati heritage sports of Falconry and Camel racing. Being the Chairman of the UAE Falcons Federation and the Dubai Camel Racing Club he works towards revitalizing these sports.

The previous deputy ruler Sheikh Hamdan also served as the minister of finance and industry of the United Arab Emirates. Born as the second son of the late Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Hamdan came into charge on the 9th of December 1971.

He was also in charge of the UAE’s delegation at the International Monetary Fund and the OPEC Fund (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting  Countries).

Last month witnessed various changes in the leadership environment of the United Arab Emirates. The President of the UAE and the ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in his power has appointed Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the Vice President of the Emirate. The title of the crown prince of Abu Dhabi was offered to Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
