13- Year Old Autistic Boy Breaks The Guinness Record

Hailing from an Indian expatriate family Amit Ramkumar breaks the Guinness Record by creating 2D images of the number ‘44’ by using 44,000 magnets. The record was accomplished at Primus Private School, where he is a student enrolled in 8th grade.

This achievement is dedicated to spreading awareness to the public

Amit’s father Mr. Ramkumar Sarangapani said that the number 44 is integral to this community because according to the latest statistics revealed by researchers in the USA, one out of every 44 children born is diagnosed with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) which is a rapid increase in number considering how the statistics were 1 in 150 children in the year 2000 which is a shocking increase by 340 percent.

This achievement is dedicated to spreading awareness to the public

Mr. Ramakumar made it clear that by creating such a record they would like to draw the attention of the public to this fact and build awareness for them.

He also used this opportunity to add that the month of April is commemorated as ‘Autism Acceptance Month’ around the globe.in addition to that, he also shared that an Autistic person would thrive and achieve astonishing feats if society provided them with more opportunities.

Mr. Sarangapani shared that they are hoping for more inclusivity, acceptance, and empathy from the public which will result in consideration and everyone receiving equal opportunities.

Amit’s mother also speak to the media about her son’s accomplishments and talents, in addition to that she shared her emotions and opened up about their efforts. Mahalakshmi Sankaran recalled that Amit was 3 years old when he was diagnosed with Autism.

He was their only child and hearing about their son’s Autism turned their world upside down. But they were determined and never gave up. He went for ABA therapy for 8 years and plus the school he joined provided him with a supportive environment. And this all resulted in Amit achieving wonders.

She also spoke about Amit’s extraordinary memory power. She said that the boy would be able to recollect what dress was his father wearing on a particular day while he was a student in grade 1. Amit also has an excellent recollection of the birthday of every single person he has ever come across in his entire life. She said this was just a small snippet of his ability, and that his memory shills are extended to even more activities.

Mr. Sarangapani said that around 1 in 10 people on the Autism spectrum have savant skills. He also added that in a million people who are savants almost half of them are autistic.

Mr. Ramakumar talked about how UAE is a model country when it comes to assisting people with Autism. The UAE government has built various autism centers in each Emirate and a POD card is availed for autistic people by the Ministry of Community Development. They have introduced various initiatives like ‘The National Policy for Autism’ to empower people within the Autistic spectrum and to support their parents
