MoE Signed With Coursera To Develop An Innovative Lifelong Learning System

In order to establish a cutting-edge system of lifelong learning in the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Coursera, a top online learning platform, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoE organized the first Future Education Forum as part of its participation in the World Government Summit, where officials, industry professionals in the education field, and intellectual leaders explored strategies to enhance the education system to accommodate future demands. “Forecasting the Future of Education” was the forum’s theme.

A ceremony officially executed by the Memorandum of Understanding did take place during the MoE’s participation in the World Government Summit 2023. It was attended by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ebrahim Almualla, Undersecretary for Academic Affairs at the MoE, and Mr. Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera (WGS2023).

His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, and senior representatives from both parties were present during the signing ceremony.

The MoU intends to improve communication between the two parties when establishing regional and global alliances to support credit-recommended content promotion in the Emirates. Furthermore, the agreement will help universities in the UAE create lending micro-credentials.

According to His Excellency Dr. Al Falasi, “Lifelong learning is an important idea that the ministry intends to implement in the UAE as a productive way to improve individual talents and skills. It enables people to be informed about and ready for the quick changes the world is experiencing, particularly in terms of advancements in technology and its impact on the labor force and lifestyle.

Individuals’ productivity is also increased by lifelong learning, which also fosters innovation and the mindset of entrepreneurship while teaching learners new skills that can enhance their professions.

Moreover, he added, “We think that successful collaboration and strategic partnerships with the government and private sectors are foundations to achieving our objective to enhance the educational system in the UAE.

The ministry’s dedication to accomplishing the goals of our wise leadership in building a knowledgeable society that increases the competitiveness of the nation in several fields that’s what motivates this vision.

We shall make every effort to fulfill the aspirations of our students to receive the best education that will prepare them for present and future labor market demands.

The CEO of Coursera, Jeff Maggioncalda, emphasized the value of micro-credentials in allowing the shift to a knowledge-based economy. He also emphasized the necessity of career-relevant, easily available, and flexible learning options.

He complimented the UAE’s efforts to position itself as a hub for startups and multinational enterprises and expressed his desire to support the MoE‘s goal of an innovative lifelong learning system, that would further establish the UAE as a worldwide leader in talent competitiveness.
